BRISTOL MYERS SQUIBB

“ Very few roles out there actually allow you to work truly at an enterprise scale and still trace every decision back to a patient outcome”

Sharmita Srivastava Vice President and Global Head of IT Finance Bristol Myers Squibb important in the SAP relationship given how central the platform is to finance, procurement and supply chain.“ No single company builds enterprise AI and automation capability alone at this scale and speed,” Sharmita says. Partnerships matter most, she explains, when they bring capability that BMS should not be building in-house. This frees internal teams to focus on the areas only BMS understands: its data, its regulatory environment and its patients.
Looking ahead Sharmita sees the wider industry moving from AI as a point solution towards AI embedded across the full process, with systems that anticipate exceptions and risk rather than just processing what has already happened. In a regulated sector like life sciences, she believes the companies that succeed will be those that build compliance and auditability into that shift from the outset, rather than those that move fastest without it.
Over the next 12 to 18 months, BMS intends to keep scaling what is already working: extending its AI-infused procurement approach and touchless invoicing automation into more markets and pushing further towards its perpetual close vision.
“ The goal stays the same,” she says.“ Faster, more reliable finance and supply operations that free up capacity for the work that actually serves patients rather than administrative overhead.”
