BUDDERFLY
“ Because we’ re bearing all the risk, we write all the cheques. That makes it easy for a customer to say yes. And in our model, the customer doesn’ t outlay any money for anything.”
Scaling commercial energy infrastructure Rather than focusing on large singlesite facilities, Budderfly targets small to medium-sized commercial properties up to 200,000 square feet, including restaurants, shops, gyms, hospitality properties, light manufacturing facilities and, most recently, municipalities. This operational footprint allows for standardised equipment deployment, creating predictable execution frameworks across multiple sites.
“ Our ability to adopt new locations doesn’ t require a heavy amount of engineering because when you’ re doing rinse and repeat, you pretty much know how they’ re going to behave,” Al says.
Physical updates are central to many of these efficiency programmes, particularly in commercial HVAC infrastructure. Upgrading legacy equipment improves efficiency, but scaling these installations also requires strong supply chain oversight.
“ This year we’ re going to install probably near 6,000 brand new HVAC units in the US and that number is going up at 30-60 % a year in volumes,” Al continues.
“ But the scale to be able to move that much, it’ s like a wartime thing where we have five OEM partners that are manufacturing these things at a speed faster than they ever did before because they’ re the high-efficiency ones. We’ re probably the largest buyer in the US right now.
