The importance of carbon fluency Most people know and understand how much a smartphone costs.
But the majority of those people would not be able to estimate the carbon footprint of the same product.
This is called carbon fluency – the ability to interpret and use carbon and emissions data to help guide real-world decisions – which Scott believes will become an essential business capability.
“ Most people know the price of different smartphone models and can quickly compare them,” Scott says.“ Now we have to develop that same level of fluency around carbon and really think about the carbon number in multiple dimensions.
“ The goal of carbon fluency is not better reporting, it’ s better decisions, and you need more lenses to make better decisions.”
