ADVANCING LIQUID COOLING WITH A STRATEGIC ACQUISITION
By combining real-time monitoring with AI-driven insights, the system is designed to protect servers and reduce both water and energy consumption simultaneously.
“ Together, these solutions allow Ecolab to support the entire data centre cooling ecosystem, from cooling towers to the chip level,” Emilio says.“ It’ s about helping operators do more with less, improving uptime and efficiency while safeguarding water and energy resources.”
The overarching goal, as Emilio frames it, is straightforward:“ Protect operational continuity today while enabling confident, profitable growth tomorrow.”
In a move that significantly expands its data centre footprint, Ecolab agreed to acquire liquid cooling specialist CoolIT Systems for US $ 4.75bn in March 2026. Expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, the deal positions Ecolab as a comprehensive provider of end-toend fluid management and cooling solutions for the rapidly growing AI sector.
CoolIT brings extensive expertise in high-performance liquid cooling systems, including coolant distribution units, cold plates and direct-to-chip technologies. By combining this critical hardware with Ecolab’ s established strengths in water management, chemistry and digital monitoring, the company will dramatically enhance its Cooling-as-a-Service offering.
The strategic purchase doubles Ecolab’ s Global High-Tech market opportunity to US $ 10bn. With CoolIT projected to generate US $ 550m in sales over the next year, the integration will help operators transition from air to liquid cooling to support power-intensive AI workloads while simultaneously lowering overall water use.
