“ Our Siemens strategy is to combine the real and the digital worlds”

Sustainability Siemens
Data, measurement and AI-enabled performance“ What gets measured gets done,” Eva says as she explains how data is central to Siemens’ sustainability management.
Siemens has developed a comprehensive target framework called DEGREE, covering emissions, resource use, circularity, social impact and governance. A dedicated reporting team supports the entire organisation through data integration and analysis to collect the necessary information, including data from suppliers. The ambition is to move from retrospective reporting to using data for real-time performance management across the company. At the same time, Industrial AI has become a key strategic focus for Siemens. It is applied across the industrial value chain to enable adaptive manufacturing, optimise performance and improve energy efficiency.
“ In Industrial AI, the positive impact of AI is already tangible, delivering real and sustainable value,” Eva says.
In manufacturing, AI-enabled design reduced the weight of a robotic component from 50 kilograms to two kilograms, resulting in a 90 % reduction in CO₂ emissions without compromising functionality. Scaling such innovations across industries can deliver significant emissions reductions. AI is also used to optimise infrastructure systems. Smart grids, enhanced with AI, can increase grid capacity by up to 30 %.
