JOHN OVERTON

TITLE : CEO
John Overton is the CEO and founder of Kove IO , Inc ., responsible for introducing the world ’ s first Software-Defined Memory offering , Kove : SDM™ . Once considered impossible , Kove : SDM™ delivers infinitely scalable memory , and unleashes new Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities while also reducing power by up to 50 %. In the late 1990s and early 2000s , Dr . Overton co-invented and patented pioneering technology using distributed hash tables for locality management . This breakthrough technology created unlimited scaling , and enabled the advent of cloud storage , scale-out database sharding , among other markets . While at the Open Software Foundation in the late 1980s , Dr . Overton wrote software used by approximately two thirds of the world ’ s workstation market . Dr . Overton has more than 65 issued patents world-wide , has peerreviewed publications across a number of academic disciplines , and holds postgraduate and doctoral degrees from Harvard and the University of Chicago .

Every aspect of computing – computation , storage , hardware and software – has been virtualised , except for memory

computing for a long time and have worked our tails off to get here .”
Kove was founded 20 years ago with a mission to “ think differently about what could be done with computing ”, says Overton , who adds that today , the company is home to “ passionate software engineers and technologists committed to delivering the products and personalised services that enable every enterprise to reach its full potential ”.
AI workloads driving the need for better data centre performance Central to Kove ’ s offering is memory virtualisation , and it ’ s a technology that is badly needed by a power-hungry , tech-driven world . According to research by Boston Consulting Group , in 2022 the power used by US data centres was around 130 terawatt hours ( TWh ), which is set to increase to a gargantuan 390TWh in 2030 – the equivalent of almost 10 % of the US ’ total electricity consumption in 2023 .
Driving this ever-increasing need for more juice is the mass-scale adoption
