The team gradually repointed front-end channels and application programming interfaces( APIs) to the new technology. As a result, the staged approach enabled individual features to be migrated over several months and reduced the risk of a single change affecting the whole customer experience.
The work was complicated by the regulated nature of banking – existing customer profiles had to be preserved, while data from new customers had to be handled correctly during the transition. To work around this
– and remain compliant and in control in such a highly-regulated environment – NatWest Boxed built a synchronisation system that kept the old and new platforms aligned. The two systems continued exchanging relevant information until the migration stage was complete. NatWest Boxed completed the migration with zero customer downtime during cutover. There were few teething issues post migration but the team was able to quickly resolve those issues as they had end-to-end ownership of the technology platform.
