OPELLA
Lyvio’ s strategy through to 2030 is“ to elevate buyers’ role … to that dimension of strategist.”
“ I’ m not saying that they’ re not doing strategy. I’ m just saying that today they do strategic work, within an operational framework.”
Reducing that operational burden is therefore central to the next stage of Opella’ s business and procurement transformation.
“ This is what we are currently working on – to elevate and help our people grow towards that objective of being strategic.”
Building a high-performance culture Lyvio’ s vision of freeing his team from the operational demands of everyday procurement and enabling them to take a more strategic role speaks to his commitment to developing and empowering his people.
The Centre of Excellence team he leads comprises more than 20 people across the globe. Four direct reports – two of them based in Paris, one in Germany and one in Spain – oversee the team’ s four core pillars:
• Global processes and operations excellence.
• Global and procure-tech solutions excellence.
• S2P execution excellence.
• Capabilities and effectiveness excellence.

“ The idea is for those [ pillars ] to work together, fully synchronised and to enable pieces of the strategy seamlessly,” says Lyvio. He describes the procurement excellence team as“+ 4-20 fantastic talents” – a group he credits as fundamental to the progress being made within the function.
“ I’ m able to do what I do because I have that team, because they trust me,” he explains.“ I’ m defined as being a corporate hacker. I don’ t do stuff to please or make friends; I do stuff in the interest of the business and, globally speaking, in the interest of everyone.
