“ In case there is a change, we’ re ready to take it and support the acceleration”

looking like with that partner, with that technology and specifically for that area of spend or domain procurement.”
The roadmap to‘ best in class’ by 2030 One of Opella’ s overarching procurement ambitions for the end of the decade is to become a top“ 3-7 % digital-driven procurement organisation.”
For Lyvio, achieving that goal ultimately comes down to one thing:“ our people.”
Executing the procurement strategy effectively means giving those people the capabilities, support and opportunities they need to grow.“ We need to enable our people, and we need to enable our people on two sides,” he explains.
The first is the existing team, which Lyvio says needs to be“ equipped”, developed and supported at pace – both for the benefit of individuals and the wider organisation. But the ambition extends beyond the current workforce.
Opella’ s procurement department also needs to build the foundations for the talent it will recruit in the years ahead.
That means developing today’ s people while simultaneously preparing for“ those that we’ re going to recruit in a year, in two years, in three years.”
The future of the procurement industry Taking a step back from Opella and assessing the potential trajectory of the wider procurement industry, Lyvio believes the sector is shifting“ from an era where you’ ve got buyers doing buyers’ jobs to what I would call the“ portfolio strategist.”
This means procurement professionals will develop a wider skill set as they are armed with the tools to adopt an increasingly strategic mindset.“ What I can see is that we will see more and more buyers dealing with various categories as a portfolio, instead of a sole or double expertise.
“ So globally, what we would expect is much more agility, much more predictability, faster decisionmaking and paced iterations.”
If the past four years have demonstrated anything, it is how quickly technology can reshape the way procurement operates. From human-led procure-to-pay( P2P) and source-to-pay( S2P) processes to guided buying, orchestration, generative AI and now AI agents, Lyvio has seen five different approaches deployed in a relatively short period.
