Ismael Hernandez, VP of IT at TLG, redefines what technology and security means for one of the largest heavy duty commercial truck dealer groups in the US
With humble beginnings in Springfield, Missouri, back in 1987, The Larson Group Peterbilt( TLG) has since grown to an allencompassing heavy duty commercial truck dealership – one of the largest of its kind in North America.
TLG sells everything from over-theroad heavy-duty to the medium-duty box and delivery trucks we see in our cities every day. It also provides parts and service support in 36 locations across 12 states.
Having established operational units across the US, the name TLG Peterbilt, might as well be synonymous with the commercial trucking industry itself. It’ s an industry which Ismael Hernandez, Vice President
“ We help keep logistics running. We help keep America rolling, if you will”
Ismael Hernandez Vice President of Information
Technology TLG of Information Technology at TLG, calls a“ hidden gem for a place of employment” and for good reason.
“ If you and I look around our offices, everything on your desk, everything in your office, arrived on some sort of truck at some point in that destination,” he elaborates.“ Or consider Christmas Eve or any major holiday – you see these trucks and drivers out there moving goods. I love working in tech within an industry as essential and tangible as logistics.”
Ismael says that while he is not in hospital tech saving lives, the industry he is in could be considered critical in nature.“ We feel like we help keep logistics running. We a part of helping keep America rolling, if you will.”
One thing that attracts him to the company is its rich background and diversity of people who work at TLG, be it diesel technicians, drivers or operators, Ismael notes how they are just“ real people” who have a“ mastery of their trade”.
“ We’ re not in an office full of architects or engineers,” he says.“ Basically, it’ s a good footprint of diverse people who are very skilled regardless of whether they’ re an executive or a manager or front-line hands-on employee.”
While growth is big on the list of TLG’ s ambitions, there’ s a lot of consideration behind it, which stems from the fact that all of this was built by a family.
