“ I was always the annoying kid at school who would talk about saving energy, turning the lights off and recycling,” he says.“ So I think that it was always there.”
Liam has spent around 13 years in the sustainability sector, first joining Univar Solutions in 2017, saying that he has found an organisation“ that cares, that wants to make a difference and has empowered the agenda”.
“ What a privilege it is to be able to work on something that’ s bigger than any of us as individuals, and make a positive change for something beyond you,” he says.
Operational decarbonisation and fleet transformation Following on from its most recent five-year strategic sustainability cycle, Univar Solutions has launched‘ Growth Through Purpose’, a major operational framework focused on risk mitigation, commercial relevance and value creation amid the company’ s next phase of global decarbonisation.
“ As part of that, we’ re focused on three pillars,” Liam says.“ We’ re defining and demonstrating value creation for the business, mitigating risk and making sure we meet our stakeholders where they are. That’ s what’ s keeping us occupied for the next five years.”
Right now, one of the company’ s main priorities is focused on where emissions are most concentrated: fleet transportation.
“ This is a real modular approach, whereby we have to think about the needs of the business, and also the capabilities,” Liam explains.“ There’ s no point in starting somewhere that’ s immaterial.
