• End-of-life processing capacity is constrained by regional infrastructure mismatches, particularly in North America, where processing capacity lags behind collection volumes
Scaling these pathways requires moving from local initiatives to global component supply chains.“ If you look into plastics and textiles, pilots are often very regionally focused because the sourcing is focused on a city or an area,” Sean says.
“ In electronics, all of these supply chains are global. When we look at a pilot for critical minerals, we’ re generally focusing on one component or one mineral – copper, aluminium or cobalt for batteries. Once you get that supply chain figured out, it doesn’ t copy and paste to others.”
Securing critical mineral supply Effective management of critical minerals is vital for supply chain security, cost stability and achieving carbon reduction targets. Overlooking circular mineral strategies increases operational risks, including possible production impacts due to raw material volatilities.
“ Any refurbished or recycled product will reduce the amount of carbon that you need as input,” Sean says.
