He also says that flexibility means a business can change direction and change back without disturbing the core vault.
“ You can change right back,” Doug adds.“ Because what doesn’ t change – what sits at the centre of it – is our solution, an independent token vault. That is not changing. It’ s just where they’ re pointing it that can change quickly.”
Tokenisation: Boosting payment performance For Doug, tokenisation is also about getting more out of payments Authorisation lift and account updater functionality are examples of how merchants can improve outcomes without adding friction for customers.
“ Optimisation is about improving authorisation rates, getting more out of their payments performance, et cetera,” he says. One of the most tangible examples is card updating for recurring billing. If a card is lost or replaced, subscription payments may fail unless the merchant can refresh the payment details.
Doug adds:“ I’ ve had my card maybe stolen or lost and I’ ve had to get it replaced. One of the technologies I support is called Account Updater – it updates cards as they get lost or stolen, so that subscription I have keeps running.”
This matters because a large share of involuntary churn comes from failed payment credentials rather than a customer’ s decision to cancel.
