“We’ re problem solvers and we need to understand the options at our disposal”

MARK OSMER, PROCUREMENT BUSINESS PARTNER, TRANSLINK
Future trends in procurement Looking ahead, Translink has ambitious plans for the future, including connecting areas that haven’ t been linked by rail for many years, implementing Phase B of the Glider rapid transit system and completing the decarbonisation of the bus and railway networks.
Unsurprisingly, AI is anticipated to play an increasingly important role in procurement, particularly in areas like market intelligence and strategy development.
“ If AI can perform market intelligence in a nanosecond, you’ re going to have real-time information,” Mark predicts.
“ We, as procurement practitioners, need to be thinking about specific prompts we can use to generate a range of answers. We’ re problem solvers and we need to understand the options at our disposal; we can’ t be so fixed on one solution that we discount something better. I think AI will identify and tease out those alternative options.”
