Mark Osmer, Procurement Business Partner at Translink, explains why modern-day procurement must be viewed as transformational rather than transactional
In the world of public transport, procurement can often be viewed as a necessary but unglamourous back office function. However, at Translink – Northern Ireland’ s fullyintegrated public transport provider – procurement has been elevated to become a strategic enabler that drives business success.
Mark Osmer, Procurement Business Partner at Translink, has been instrumental in this transformation over the course of his 15-year tenure with the organisation. His mission has been to move procurement away from being perceived as a back-office function to becoming a strategic driver of change.
“ Procurement is the backbone of Northern Ireland public transport transformation,” explains Mark.“ We are delivering sustainable, customer-centric and efficient multimodal, low-carbon and net-zero solutions that align with our strategy to be the first choice for public transport in Northern Ireland.”
This commitment has earned recognition beyond the organisation’ s borders. Translink has won 17 UK and Irish national procurement awards in the past eight years, a testament to its innovative approach towards public transport fleet procurement transformation.
